The unique landscape of Mull is revealed during a special event organised by the National Trust for Scotland team on the island. The walk through the wild coastal landscapes of Burg where ancient lava once flowed into the forest in the company of a ranger and a geologist will reveal some unique landscapes.

The day long trek will take visitors along the beautiful coastal terrain at the western tip of the Ardmeanach peninsula to MacCulloch’s Fossil Tree – a cliff with an impression of a tree within the rock.

Recognised as a National Scenic Area and Special Area of Conservation the history of this landscape and the magnificent views will be explained – in particular how the geology has influenced the habitats and wildlife.

Burg, is in the care of the Trust, and is a wonderful place to escape the modern world. The area is littered with special archaeological features – from Bronze Age burial cairns to more recent ruined townships. As well as the wild coastline the hill at the centre of the estate gives spectacular views of the island and beyond.

Porpoises, dolphins and basking sharks that also come to enjoy this special place.

This planned five mile walk is strenuous and includes the descent and ascent of a steel ladder down a rock face – making it unsuitable for dogs. It also means that walking boots with a good ankle support, waterproofs and a packed lunch with drink are necessary.
